The Lake District - late September 2022 - UK 4

 Dear friends and family,

This is the time to click on the photos to view them as large as possible. Really unbelievable!

I sometimes forget to add this link, but you should be able to see earlier posts here: donera.blogspot.com.

We left the Paper Foundation and Kendal and drove into the Lake District. It was raining which didn’t bode well, and made things difficult for Don, driving on the left side, pedestrians (mostly tourists) darting around. We found our AirBnB in Ullock, near Cockermouth 😃, which was simply beautiful, so well-designed and comfortable. The next day we woke up to beautiful calm weather.

On the way to Buttermere, a lake, we had to pull over for this shot.

We ended up finding parking on the side of the very narrow road and walking around Buttermere.

I turned to Don, “I feel like we’re in Paradise.” He agreed.

The water is so very clear, I read that is because no boats are allowed. In general, the first photos are of Buttermere and the latter ones of Loweswater, although I may have mixed them up a little. They are two lakes, close to each other. We walked around Loweswater the second day, but it wasn’t so mirror-like as the day before. The skies really do change that quickly in the same day - from blue to gray and back to blue.

My friend Chris sent me an article on Beatrix Potter. She used the profits from the sale of her very successful Peter Rabbit books to buy up a lot of property in the Lake District, where she lived. She later sold half this property to the National Trust at her cost. She bequeathed the remainder of her property to the National Trust upon her death, so she is credited with preserving much of the Lake District, and keeping it the pristine, lovely area that it is. What a wonderful thing to do.

At Loweswater, we walked up into the hills a little.

A woman swimming in what had to be very chilly water.

The next day it rained all day, but we did manage to have a good pub meal. I’m having pork loin and Don’s having turkey. We couldn’t begin to finish it all. They also brought us a side of varied vegetables.

Love from Era and Don
